Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have the ability to read, write, communicate with other staff, and follow instructions. Candidates must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift heavy items, bend and stoop frequently, and be able to push carts throughout the school.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind is seeking to fill a Launderer position. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for tending to various machines and performing a variety of routine and repetitive laundry tasks. Major duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Pick up and sort all dirty linens from dorms and items delivered to laundry;
• Wash dirty linens, and ensure all items are clean and sanitary;
• Dry and then fold all linens after washing;
• Inspect linens and replace stained or worn linens as needed;
• Place folded linens in appropriate basket for delivery and deliver clean linens to dorms;
• Order supplies to provide and maintain a smooth running operation;
• Change laundry chemicals as needed; and
• Clean entire laundry area, including floors, machines, sinks, sills, and lint screens.

Additional Comments
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent, 12-month position. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.
