Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must currently be serving in a Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) title OR be eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
52.6 Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 16 or higher.
Duties Description With guidance from senior Java developers and architects, code and debug Java applications following defined specifications and standards
• Conduct technical walkthroughs of proposed system changes
• Unit test code, following defined testing methodology
• Collaborate with business analysts and users to gather and refine requirements and functional design
• Analyze functional requirements, and develop technical requirements
• Create design documents and other related system documentation
• With guidance from senior Java developers and architects, develop final design
• Conduct unit testing and debugging of all code changes in a development environment
• Conduct code reviews as assigned and recommend changes.
• Perform Quality Assurance testing of code changes as assigned
Additional Comments Desired Competencies
• C-based programming language experience (C, C++, C#, Java)
• Object-oriented programming experience
• Web development experience
• Relational database experience
• A completed Associate’s or higher degree, with a minimum of 12 credit hours in a C-based programming language (C, C++, C#, Java).
• Practical experience and/or familiarity with the following:
- C-based programming languages; C, C++, C#, Java.
- Object-oriented programming techniques and concepts, including abstraction, encapsulation, messaging, modularity, polymorphism and inheritance.
- Client-server and distributed computing concepts.
- Class constructs.
- Cross-platform computing concepts.
- Proficiency in advanced HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Experience writing SQL in Enterprise database systems, such as Oracle, DB2, or MySQL.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
