Duties Description 1. Administer Division of Lands & Forests programs within Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties or as assigned.

2. Supervise forestry staff assigned to the Ray Brook office or as assigned.

3. Act as liaison between the Department and other governmental agencies and public and private organizations, with respect to Division programs.

4. Act as liaison between Division of Lands & Forests and other DEC Divisions, Bureaus and Units.

3. Serve as community liaison with local government and other organizations.

4. Coordinate regional policy and program implementation with regional foresters.

5. Fill in when regional foresters are absent.

6. TRP and VSA coordination w/applicant, L&F staff, Rangers, Operations and regional foresters.

7. Check/inspect work of staff and program implementation on the ground.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointment:

Must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Forester 1.
or

Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or

Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: One year of permanent competitive service as an Environmental Program Specialist 2 (Natural Resources)

If no more than three individuals meeting the provisional qualifications are interested, it will be possible to make a permanent appointment via non-competitive promotion. The minimum qualifications for non-competitive promotion are: Must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Forester 1.

Additional Comments Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Telecommuting may be available up to 50% of work schedule, will be discussed at interview.
