Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be currently reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 (SG-18) eligible list or eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
52.6 Transfer
Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 16 or higher.
Duties Description • Maintain accurate inventory of servers and their resources and research security bulletins associated with these resources to develop remediation strategies. This includes researching security patches and testing them.
• Ensure timely implementation of the patches in coordination with other technical teams.
• Maintain patch cycles and implement procedures for auditing servers for security compliance. Install, patch and roll out service packs and hot fixes for Windows Server operating systems.
• Monitor system integrity, protection levels, and security-related events and maintain standard configuration profiles for servers.
• Assist in the research that will lead to development of procedures to improve current practices to guarantee secure, predictable, and repeatable server deployments and assist in conducting security tests and scans as required.
• Manage the Windows Server and VMware Infrastructure environment based on existing guidelines.
• Plan, forecast, install, configure and test servers following established procedures.
• Using various administration tools monitor the disk storage capacity, system warnings, virus alerts, event log exceptions and server performance.
• Create a proactive approach to identified potential problems to remedy underlying issues.
• Perform customer support functions related to server services following current procedures. Adhere to existing guidelines and develop clear and concise procedures for troubleshooting servers.
• Assist staff in documenting checklists, procedures, spreadsheets, LAN and PC documentation making sure it’s up-to-date and accurate.
• Assist staff in preparing purchase orders and request quotes from vendors.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide support to enable staff to effectively use the software to meet bureau goals.
• Prepare written and oral presentations based on trainings or relevant topics pertaining to current or future work.
Additional Comments DESIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer related field
- Knowledge and experience with MS Windows Server 2003 and 2008
- Knowledge and experience with VMWare Virtualization including VCenter
- Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools for Windows and VMWare servers
- Knowledge of MS Windows patch cycles and tools for updating servers
- Knowledge of storage networks and related technologies
- Ability to research and document issues related to information technologies.
