Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment or reassignment for NYSED employees, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) OR candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or a current NYS employee eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
52.6 Transfer
To be eligible for transfer under Section 52.6, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-16 or above deemed eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law AND:
I. A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, computer information systems, telecommunications, or management information systems OR;
II. A bachelor's degree or higher in any field including or supplemented by 15 credit hours in computer science with at least 9 credit hours in programming languages OR;
III. A bachelor's degree or higher in any field and at least one year of the experience in the following computer related areas: computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing OR;
IV. A minimum of 60 college semester credit hours including at least 15 credit hours in computer science courses and one year of the experience in the following computer related areas: computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing OR;
V. A total of two years of experience in the following computer related areas: computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $66,494 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking candidates for the position of Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming). Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications), this position will provide overall coordination for ordering, deploying and maintaining desktop computers, peripheral equipment and specialized software in the Office of Cultural Education which consists of the State Library, State Museum, State Archives and the Office of Educational Television & Public Broadcasting. The position works closely with staff to support highly specific hardware and software configurations and providing specialized support for public applications in the student center and on the museum exhibit floor, as well as the public floors of the library and archives. Other duties of this positon include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Setup, configure and install all computer equipment following NYSED and OCE standards, using Ghost and SED standard software;
• Create images for specialized software for the public network following NYSED and OCE standards.
• In coordination with the NYSED-ITS Help Desk, provide support and troubleshooting assistance to staff using computers in the OCE;
• Support deployment and maintenance of networked environmental monitoring equipment;
• Setup, configure, troubleshoot and support VOIP equipment;
• Coordinate and support desktop computers and networking at remote research and collections storage facilities; and
• Ensure that systems and procedures are properly documented, meet NYSED standards, and follow generally accepted IT practices.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. The incumbent of this position will be expected to lift 50 pounds.
