Minimum Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
Have a valid license** to practice medicine in New York State OR possess a limited permit and licensure in another state or by written examination in Canada***;
And
Certification in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology;
And
Eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs.
**The New York State Education Department’s Office of the Professions is responsible for reviewing applications and granting licenses to practice medicine in New York State. ***If you are licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada, AND meet the other requirements for Psychiatrist 2, you are also eligible if you have a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. If appointed, you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued. Failure to do so will result in removal from your position.
Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or failure to maintain certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology will result in action to remove you from the position.

Duties Description The New York State Office of Mental Health is the largest multi-faceted mental health system in the Country. OMH regulates, certifies, and oversees the New York State public mental health system which includes more than 4,500 programs and directly provides State operated inpatient and outpatient mental health services and supports by operating over 2000 inpatient beds and 60 outpatient clinics in the adult division. OMH also conducts mental health research to advance prevention, treatment and recovery through our two research institutes: the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) and the New York State Psychiatric Institute (PI).
OMH is actively recruiting for a psychiatrist position to serve as an assistant to the Medical Director for Adult Services to provide assistance in policy and program formation and the quality of services for the agency. Under the direct supervision of the Psychiatrist 3 (Medical Director) for Adult Services provides guidance and clinical consultation on patient cases, ensures core clinical competencies, provides support to clinicians and consults on matters relating to quality of care in OMH operated Adult Psychiatric Centers. The incumbent also provides consultation to OMH licensed programs and Field Office Directors on regional provider and patient cases and quality of care including inpatient and outpatient, emergency, community support and residential programs. The incumbent supports the clinical lead in critical special projects and clinical implementation of best practices; provides input into the development of OMH policies, procedures and practices and serves as a liaison to other agencies. The incumbent provides assistance to the Psychiatrist 3 (Medical Director) by participating in strategic planning; quality and risk management; services development and population health of patients treated within the state hospital system and provides assistance with special projects.

Periodic travel around the state is essential.

Additional Comments If appointed in New York City area, there is a $3,026 salary differential added to the annual base salary.
