Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
OR
One year of permanent competitive service in a tile allocated to a SG-13 or above and be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law in a Training Specialist traineeship.
OR
Be reachable for appointment from the current Public Administration Traineeship Transition (PATT), Professional Careers Opportunities (PCO) eligible lists into a Training Specialist traineeship.
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Training Specialist 2, the incumbent will develop, implement, present and manage training classes for NYS Department of Transportation employees statewide. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Identifying specific training needs;
• Administering, and/or presenting training classes designed to improve on-the-job knowledge, skills and abilities of agency personnel;
• Assisting with developing new curriculum;
• Preparing lesson plans for classes conducted;
• Evaluating classes for effectiveness and potential improvements;
• Serving as a primary administrator in the Statewide Learning Management System;
• Preparing and disseminating training announcements;
• Preparing proposals for training programs utilizing external funding;
• Assisting in creating online training classes using e-learning authoring software;
• Travel is required;
• Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
