Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is currently recruiting for the position of Mental Health Program Specialist 2, G-23, located in the Division of Quality Management, External Review Unit. External Review staff identify compliance vulnerabilities in OMH facilities relative to accreditation and certification standards.
The Mental Health Program Specialist 2 will provide guidance and interpretation to OMH Psychiatric Centers regarding the regularly changing 1200+ Hospital and Behavioral Health standards set forth by The Joint Commission (TJC), as well as the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation (CoPs). The position is based out of OMH Central Office in Albany, but is primarily a travel position. There is ongoing planned travel around the state to work with a caseload of facilities, and at times travel is required to attend unannounced CMS and TJC surveys.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Provide survey standard clarifications/interpretations to Office of Mental Health (OMH) facilities.
• Act as liaison between OMH facilities and The Joint Commission (TJC) in order to facilitate the coordination of the conduct of surveys relative to the TJC contract.
• Attend TJC and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Systems (CMS) surveys to monitor conduct of survey team and to assist facility staff as needed.
• Provide guidance and direction to OMH facilities in completing Plans of Correction, where required.
• Develop and coordinate mock surveys and survey readiness assessments.
• Develop training materials for OMH facility staff involved in survey preparedness.
Additional Comments This position requires extensive statewide travel.
