*Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a Bachelor’s Degree supplemented by 24 hours in Accounting and/or Auditing from an accredited college or university.
Duties Description Standard Duties: Under the general direction of the Principal Accountant, the incumbent will supervise subordinate Accountants and clerical staff in the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)/Jobs for Veterans Unit (VETS) and the Payment Preparation Units including Accounts Payable, Voucher and Travel. The incumbent will perform accounting work requiring a professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and procedures specific to DOL federal and state programs. In this capacity, the incumbent will review current procedures, making recommendations for possible procedural changes, as well as keeping the supervisor apprised of the status of work assignments. The incumbent will carry out day- to-day operations of the unit by ensuring accounting transactions and reports are completed in a timely, accurate and professional manner; oversee the approval and timely processing of vouchers and expense reports; respond to both internal and external audit inquiries. The incumbent in a supervisory capacity has a close working relationship with subordinate staff in making assignments, evaluating performance, giving instructions and providing assistance in resolving difficult matters.
