Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience under a journeyman electrician which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program or apprenticeship training in the electrical trade. Training gained by the completion of technical course in the electrical trade at a school (post high school), institute or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for-year basis. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Preference will be given to those candidates who can demonstrate a good knowledge of high voltage distribution and related switch gear equipment. In addition, the successful candidate should have a basic knowledge of building fire alarm systems and will be required to respond to fire alarms as needed, as well as conduct individual building fire drills when scheduled. Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms. Must possess a valid NYS Driver's license, or ability to acquire one if currently holding a valid out of state driver's license.
Duties Description Duties include but are not limited to: the repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems and equipment including motors, transformers, generators, switches, relays, various controls, circuit breakers, fire alarm systems, suppression systems, and small appliances. To locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test instruments such as a volt-meter, amp-meter, and ohm-meter. To measure, cut, bend, thread, and assemble electrical conduit. To inspect circuits and wiring for specified shielding and grounding as well as make necessary repairs to or replace wiring according to building code and safety regulations. To plan and layout new or modified electrical installations consistent with code requirements which shall include preparation of basic sketches showing locations of all wiring and equipment and to follow diagrams or blueprints when provided. JOB REQUIREMENTS: To have a working knowledge of electrical theory and mathematics as applied to the trade. To have working knowledge of applicable standards and electrical code regulations. To have basic knowledge of electronic theory as applied to the electrical trade. To have the ability to read circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints, and motor control diagrams, and to have the ability to train and supervise others as assigned. Serve as part of on call rotation through the calendar year, including holidays, to respond to campus emergencies occurring during off shift hours.
Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications:
Department of the state Certified Alarm Technician Training or NICET level 2 certification preferred or willing to acquire certification from a certified alarm technician course.
