Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Food Service Worker 1.

§70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Dietitian 1, Dietitian 2, Nutrition Services Administrator 1, or Nutrition Services Administrator 2.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Food Service Worker 1 eligible list may be considered for appointment.

Provisional Appointment: If the eligible list contains fewer than 3 acceptors, a provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must read, write, and speak English and must be able to follow both written and spoken instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess the following qualifications:
• Experience in completing reports, paperwork and time sheets.
• Experience with portion control techniques.
• Experience using commercial kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of sanitation procedures.
• Basic food preparation and storage experience.
• Knowledge of proper temperatures for serving food.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind in Batavia is seeking applicants to fill a part- time (50%) Food Service Worker 1 position. Under the supervision of the Food Service Worker 3, the incumbent of this position will assist in all food-service activities. Major responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist with serving meals to the students;
• Record foods taken from dry goods and frozen inventory;
• Assist with preparation of the evening meals when needed;
• Mop and sweep the kitchen stock room, main storage area, and walk-in freezer;
• Keep areas neat at all times and locked when not in use;
• Restock canned foods in storeroom from main dry goods area;
• Put away orders of dry and frozen goods;
• Properly date and label food orders;
• Clear, disinfect, and reset tables;
• Disinfect all areas of cafeteria and kitchen;
• Wash pots, pans, dishes, and equipment and put them away;
• Discard outdated food items and take out the garbage when needed;
• Answer phones; and
• Restock items in storeroom, dining room, and kitchen, as needed.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent or provisional, 12-month position. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Candidates must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.

* Leads to a maximum salary of $16,957 ($33,915 pro-rated to 50%) through annual performance advances.
