Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be reachable on the departmental list or eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer:
To be eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, an individual must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to a salary grade 7 or above.
Additional Note: The candidate will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the Spanish language at a level that will ensure their ability to perform the duties of the position.

Duties Description Completes various mathematical computations that pertain to the Retirement and Social Security Law, the Comptroller’s Rules and Regulations, and Retirement System process and procedures, and explains and interprets the results by phone or email to members, retirees, union representatives, retiree organization representatives, financial planners, attorneys, accountants, legislators and their staff and other interested parties:
• Computes calculations pertaining to member and pensioners involving a variety of topics including loans, service credit, final average salary, etc.;
• Prepares and completes member and pensioner reports by collecting and displaying data;
• Uses MEBEL system as well as various databases to obtain and compute customer and Retirement System information as necessary;
• Operates office equipment such as photocopiers, calculators, computers, printers and faxes as necessary to ensure information is compiled and relayed to appropriate staff and/or customers in a timely manner;
• Responds to basic incoming telephone calls from customers pertaining to matters involving complex calculations, as necessary;

Serves as a liaison between the caller and processing bureau representatives when inquiries are case specific or require a service commitment that requires more than calculations:
• Completes blue slips summarizing the questions and/or comments from customers that need to be relayed to the processing units for review and/or response
Participates in special projects at the request of management:
• Completes benefit projections per member request that involve mathematical computations involving arrears, service credit and final average salary;
Provides pre-service support to Information Representatives to help ensure timely and thorough service:
• Assists Information Representatives at the Call Center and/or the Information Office, pre-screening customers with scheduled interviews by ascertaining their needs and resolving their basic questions, including those pertaining to projected loan balances, service credit accumulations, and final average salary calculations;
Processes requests from members and other interested parties for Retirement Systems’ forms and literature - this literature consists of nearly 100 different booklets and brochures:
• Take down information obtained from customers via telephone including their name, address and literature requested, and relays this information to clerical staff for distribution.
