In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following promotion qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Data Entry Machine Operator, Data Entry Machine Operator (Spanish Language), Keyboard Specialist 1, Keyboard Specialist 1 (Chinese Language), Keyboard Specialist 1 (Spanish Language), Law Department Document Specialist Trainee 1 or Trainee 2, Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding), Office Assistant 1 Keyboarding (Chinese Language), or Office Assistant 1 Keyboarding (Spanish Language).
Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.
Please Note: You must be able to type at the rate of at least 30 words per minute, with at least 96% accuracy.
Duties Description As an Office Assistant 2 (Keyboarding), you either would supervise two or more Office Assistants 1 or other lower-level staff; or directly perform the more difficult or complicated clerical processing and office support work for which substantive knowledge of the program area is required; or do both. You would spend most of your work time performing keyboarding, data entry, chart compilation or arrangement, or tasks involving typing into computerized systems.
Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR will be barred from appointment.
