Salary RangeFrom $71847 to $90876 Annually
Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent or contingent-permanent NYS service in a title within two salary grades and eligible for transfer under Section70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must possess 24 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing.
Duties Description Under the general direction of a Principal Accountant, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Oversee the assigned accounting functions of the unit including the preparation and maintenance of any journals, ledgers, reconciliations, and calculations necessary to determine the accurate distribution of revenue.
• Insure the integrity of reported revenue, refund, adjustment, offset and other financial transactions through the creation of journal entries and other adjustments to various accounting and main frame systems.
• Prepare and maintain work papers in support of the quarterly and annual GAAP accrual reporting package.
• Oversee the timely preparation and dissemination of daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports and certifications.
• Supervise staff, assign and review work, provide technical guidance, set professional standards, evaluate staff performance, foster staff's professional and technical development, and ensure that unit and division objectives are achieved.
• Maintain and apply a professional knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, practices, and computer software techniques.
• Review and analyze all applicable tax legislative changes, make recommendations concerning the impact on existing accounting systems, and propose solutions to accommodate changes.
• Maintain and apply knowledge of Department systems in order to appraise the systems' internal controls and their impact on the accounting applications and assess impact from legislative or operational changes.
• Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of Information Technology initiatives, new tax systems and processing/vendor RFPs. Participation can include providing user requirements, development of test conditions, analyzing deviations from expected results, and initiating the change control process.
• Participate in the ongoing process of evaluating, revising, and modifying accounting procedures and methodologies, including the expanded use of computer hardware and software applications to enhance reporting capabilities.
