Minimum Qualifications Reachable on Civil Service Eligible List OR
One year of permanent competitive service as an Assistant Training Technician (Youth Services)
OR
Provisional Qualifications:
Two years of experience providing direct care services to court adjudicated youth in a residential facility.
AND
Responsible for conducting at least fifty hours of formal training* within the last two years to direct care services staff in areas such as “Crisis Management/ Physical Restraint, Standard First Aide/CPR or HIV/AIDS education. You MUST submit a roster of facilitated trainings, including dates, times/hours, and attendees to be considered qualified.
*In order to be considered as formal training, the courses must include structured lesson plan(s) and documentation of trainee attendance and successful completion of course. A valid driver’s license is required to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Duties Description Responsibilities include training Crisis Prevention and Management (CPM), NY Model, First Aid/CPR/AED, Suicide Risk Reduction and Cut down Tool and other topics for the Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY), as needed.
Conduct training sessions or portions thereof, focusing on developing or refreshing skills of direct-care staff; conduct documented instruction and remedial training, as needed.
Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, arrange classrooms, demonstrate safety and restraint techniques.
Maintain training records, coordinate training space, and confirm participation of co-trainers, presenters and participants.
In addition, this position will also be responsible for supporting Basic Academy Training at Parker Training Academy in Red Hook, as needed.
Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.
Additional Comments Prior to assuming responsibilities participation in a six-week residential training program located at the Parker Training Academy in Red Hook, and various mandatory in-service trainings held in Rensselaer may be required if not currently in an OCFS Bureau of Training and Development Training Specialist 1 or Assistant Training Technician position. Travel may be required. Provisional appointments may be made if eligible list is exhausted. *Crisis Prevention and Management, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention or Safe Crisis Management training is also considered qualifying.
