Minimum Qualifications Graduate Interns: Preferred candidates have completed one year of study in at least one of the following areas: public administration, economics, business administration, public policy or public affairs.

Undergraduate Interns: Preferred candidates have completed course work study in at least one of the following areas: public administration, economics, business administration, public policy or public affairs.

Applicants should possess strong analytical, and writing skills, demonstrate an attention to detail, possess good interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. An interest in education finance policy is required.

Duties Description The Education and Arts Unit of the Division of the Budget (DOB) is seeking an intern to be part of a seven-person team responsible for budgeting over $27 billion in School Aid programs. This position provides broad-based experience in all aspects of elementary and secondary education finance.

Responsibilities of the School Aid Program Analyst would include, but are not limited to:
• Analyzing the funding level and distribution of School Aid;
• Assisting in the review of school district submissions of school-level allocations and funding plans;
• Assisting in the development of policy and fiscal recommendations for the Executive Budget;
• Evaluating school district finances, including property taxes, spending and budgets, as well as Federal education funding;
• Analyzing policy issues such as student performance, school construction, pupil transportation, community schools, and career and technical education;
• Reviewing proposed legislation and Smart Schools Investment Plans;
• Assisting in the development and implementation of education initiatives; and
• Monitoring State spending on education and updating the State’s Financial Plan.
