52.6 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:

You may qualify for transfer if you have one year of permanent competitive service in a title allocated to a Grade 23 or above and your title is designated Administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

Transfer candidates must also possess a law degree from an accredited college or university and be able to provide evidence of current registration to practice law in New York State.

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:

Under the supervision of an Associate Attorney, the Senior Attorney will represent the Department in all aspects of the administrative hearing process. Primary duties will include conducting pre-hearing conferences, negotiation of settlements, preparation of witnesses for direct testimony and cross-examination, preparation of Notices of Hearing, post-hearing briefs, answers to petitions, motions, supporting affidavits, bills of particulars and subpoenas in the areas of Public Work and Labor Standards.

Additionally, the Senior Attorney will research, prepare and file regulations on behalf of the Department in the areas of Public Work and Labor Standards, prepare written legal opinions in response to inquiries received by the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, and staff from the Bureau of Public Work and Division of Labor Standards, act as the liaison between the Department and the Attorney General’s Office in the defense and prosecution of litigation to which the Department is a party, and provide counsel and guidance to Department executive staff, including the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners and division directors.
