Minimum Qualifications Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: Bachelor's degree and eight years of executive, managerial, or policy development experience in labor market programs, workforce development, economic development, job matching systems, worker readiness development, unemployment insurance, workers' compensation, worker protection programs, economics or a closely related field. A master's degree may substitute for one year and PhD. may substitute for two years of the required experience.
A strong background in economics, statistics and research is preferred. Successful candidates must have outstanding communication skills, report writing, strong policy research and analysis skills.
Duties Description The Director of Labor Department Research and Statistics oversees a Research and Statistics Division of approximately 120 employees engaged in research and reporting information on New York State Labor Market trends and conditions impacting New York State Labor. The incumbent would direct the collection, analysis and reporting on labor trends and economic conditions impacting New York labor; conduct and direct research on numerous labor market issues; and oversee development of various data gathering, career information and evaluation programs. The Division also administers and produces data for a variety of federal statistical programs in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, including those related to occupational and industrial employment, wages and local area unemployment and conducts research and reporting on the Unemployment Insurance System, the Workforce Investment Act, Employment Service programs, and the minimum wage.
