Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. *Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver's license required
Operating Needs:
Ability to perform semiskilled, routine, repetitive maintenance, installation and repair activities on building plumbing systems and components; track time and materials and enter detailed summary of work performed using a computerized maintenance systems; ability to climb ladders and work from heights (ladders and aerial platforms); lift medium to heavy loads; ability and willingness to work overtime as requested (including campus emergencies or snow removal situations) required; Valid NYS Driver's License required.
This position may be filled from a re-employment list if one is in effect.
Duties Description The Maintenance Assistant performs semi-skilled in the installation, alteration and repair of pipe, fittings and fixtures of water, drains and Fire Systems, according to specifications and Plumbing codes.
Duties of a maintenance Assistant Plumbing may include the following, but are not limited to:
Repair, maintain and installs plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, shower baths, commodes, drinking fountains, dishwashers, Gas and water meters, hot water heaters and other gas appliances, heating systems and various steam equipment used in kitchens and machine rooms.
Assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, joins piping by means of threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented and or mechanical methods.
Assembles materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work according to plan.
Use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolds, man lifts and cutting tool as well as drain cleaning power equipment.
