Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR

One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR

An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR

Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Duties Description The incumbent will work in Park Operations under the direction of the Park Manager or designee. The incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Perform desk support and park steward/night maintenance activities providing after hours coverage for the non-emergency 24-hour Park Operations Support Desk;
• Monitor, answer, and appropriately respond to inquiries and calls for assistance during overnight hours. Each shift will consist of a public facing staff member assigned to the desk and at least one staff member assigned to field response and roving duties;
• Receive telephone calls and in-person reports and requests for assistance from the public;
• Monitor radio communications and answer radio calls;
• Communicate and coordinate with NYS Park Police dispatch as appropriate;
• Maintain logs of all known activities and calls that occur during each shift, and ensure appropriate measures are taken while coordinating and communicating with response team members and management;
• Record and relay accurate and timely information;
• Register incoming campers and distribute “late-keys”;
• Patrol camping and recreational areas, interact with park patrons, and provide information/support as appropriate;
• Enforce park rules and regulations through education and voluntary compliance for minor infractions, informing NYS Park Police as appropriate as well as notifying Park Police of all other law enforcement matters;
• Inspect and report on the general condition of specific operational areas as assigned, or the facility as a whole;
• Provide assessment reports to inform park management’s decisions regarding call-outs for specialized personnel;
• Perform call-outs of operations and skilled trades staff during weekends, evenings, and overnight hours when their services are needed using rotating call-out;
• Conduct minor cabin/cottage/public restroom maintenance repairs;
• Clear debris from park roads and bike paths;
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of department activities.
• Conduct snow removal activities as needed;
• Communicate with and check in on Camper Assistance Program volunteers;
• Conduct campground audits;
• Be assigned as a point of contact for after-hour events;
• Assist with nuisance wildlife complaints;
• Restock restroom supplies;
• Supervise seasonal staff as assigned;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.
• Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and possess other basic computer skills.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
• Must be able to operate a switchboard telephone and communications radio, and exercise appropriate telephone and radio etiquette.
• Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently in a highly responsible manner with limited supervision.
• The incumbent will receive training on First Aid/CPR/AED, ATV/UTV operation, and basic chainsaw use.
