Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Preferred Qualification: One year of employment experience in general building construction or maintenance, 6 months of which in the Plumbing field OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course. Experience in the maintenance of a park or similar facility is desirable.
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will primarily support the region’s Plumber by performing semi-skilled and un-skilled labor. The selected candidate will be required to assist journey-level staff with plumbing repairs/maintenance across the Saratoga/Capital Region. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Replacement and repair of water, sewer, natural gas, and propane supply lines;
• Installation and repair of plumbing fixtures;
• Cutting, fitting, and threading pipe;
• Diagnose and repair drain lines;
• Assist with projects that involve excavation and confined space entry, as well as other general labor tasks.
• Assist in the operation and testing of potable water supplies, and wastewater treatment systems.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with applicable codes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Ability to communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material.
• Applicants must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License.
• Must be able to communicate with other staff and park patrons in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
• Experience in the maintenance of a park or similar facility is desirable.
• Must be capable of safely driving up to two hours one-way using a work vehicle.
• Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds continuously and 100 pounds occasionally in the performance of duties.
