Minimum Qualifications Possession of a license and current registration to practice dentistry in New York State.

Transfer Qualifications: Candidates must have permanent competitive status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer.

Duties Description Provides dental services for individuals in the care of Taconic OPWDD. This position makes examinations of individuals teeth and surrounding oral structures utilizing x-ray imaging, mouth mirrors, and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions. Treats dental
disease, including soft and hard tissue pathology.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Performs restoration of simple and multi-surface carious lesions with such materials as composite and amalgam.
• Provides nitrous oxide analgesia.
• Performs single and multiple extractions of teeth.
• Provides a prophylaxis via hand, sonic, and ultrasonic tooth scaling.
• Treats hard and soft tissue pathology with appropriate medications, surgery, or other methods once a treatment plan is formulated.
• Takes digital radiographs and maintains written/digital records of each individual’s dental treatment.
• Determines the need for fixed/removable devices/appliances via treatment planning and takes appropriate records for the fit, finish, and insert.
• Advises individuals about appropriate dental health practices.
• Instructs and directs dental clinic staff in the performance of auxiliary duties. May arrange for in-service training for the dental staff.
• May prepare annual budget requests, order dental equipment and supplies, and supervise the regular maintenance of all dental equipment.
