Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent, or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Health Systems Specialist 2 (Nutrition), G20 and current registration as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the Commission on Dietetic Registrationand eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications: Current clinical care and food service knowledge. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Long Term Care experience. Experience with supervision of professional multidisciplinary staff in the performance of health care, or the regulation of health care.

Duties Description Conduct and/or facilitate on-site surveys independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team by observing and evaluating nursing home resident care against established standards. Interview staff, review records, and observe the delivery of all health care services to individuals under the facility's care, to ensure services follow accepted clinical standards and treatment plans. Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary survey team responsible for evaluating nursing homes to ensure compliance with federal, state and department regulations and policies. Participate in surveys, medical off-site reviews and other audit mechanisms to determine the adequacy and suitability of nutritional and all other health care services in meeting the needs and problems of nursing home residents. Meet with clinical nutrition staff in nursing facilities concerning the quality of existing nutritional programs. Serve as a nutritional services expert for other survey staff. Review and investigate care complaints and incidents to identify and resolve areas of facility non-compliance. Identify facility areas of non-compliance and develop statements of deficiencies for issuance to facilities. Evaluate plans of corrections developed by facilities to address deficiencies. Conduct oversight of other professional staff in the performance of surveillance functions. Participate in other program-related activities as needed.

Additional Comments Statewide travel, including overnights and travel to areas not served by public transportation is required. This position requires the passing of the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Certification Test (SMQT) within one year from date of hire.
