Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications:

Either 1. six months of post-Security Guard Registration experience as a Security Guard;

Or 2. six months of experience as a police officer or peace officer;

Or 3. six months of active U.S. military service where you performed security duties on a United States military base or vessel and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act. Security duties on a United States military base or vessel include working as military police or as security personnel performing foot and motorized patrol, control of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, flight line security, and crime prevention/physical security.

It is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status in the future, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. REASSIGNMENT QUALIFICATIONS: Current New York State Department of Labor employee with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Security Officer; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current eligible list for this location, if one exists.

70.1 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS: One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Community Correctional Center Assistant, Correction Officer, or Security Services Assistant 2.

PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS:
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge/experience with access control and CCTV systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office applications and Adobe.
- Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:

As a Security Officer, you would:

• Assist in controlling access to the office space
• Patrols of buildings and grounds
• Create ID cards
• Monitor the office for safety and security issues
• Respond to and report safety and security incidents
• Assist building tenants and team members in Fire Safety drills and emergency situations
• Guides visitors to the appropriate locations
• Monitoring of security camera systems
• Maintains a safe & secure work environment by escorting unruly visitors out of the location and/or advising them they need to leave
• Contacts law enforcement, emergency medical / services when assistance is needed.
• Ensures entrances / exits are properly secured to prevent anyone from entering and/or remaining in the office before / after normal business hours/
• Assists with evacuations during a fire and/or bomb threat
• Prepares various reports documenting and detailing activities and incidents.
• Maintains a log to document daily activities.
• Work in collaboration with contract Security Officers
