Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree AND three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of genetics and understanding of clinical testing at the bench level. Experience with databases, SQL and laboratory information management systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Duties Description Under the direction of a Research Scientist 6, the incumbent will provide oversight, critical analysis and research of Newborn Screening (NBS) testing algorithms and laboratory data to ensure the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is operating accurately and efficiently. Activities will include improving screening algorithms, optimizing methodologies and developing new testing algorithms based on data analytics. The incumbent will also manage the transmission, receipt, and processing of hospital-provided infant demographic data, along with the development and implementation of the next phase of HL7 messaging, with the end goal of quality improvement and reduced turn-around-times.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, full time. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment. Work hours may be variable. Some travel may be required.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
