*Please be advised, an exam announcement for the Environmental Program Specialist 2 has been issued (Exam Number 31-161) and the written test is scheduled to be held on August 3, 2024. To be eligible for provisional appointment, in addition to meeting these minimum qualifications, you must also be registered for this exam.

Duties Description Duties Description:
1. Provide supervision of environmental monitor staff in the Region 8 Division of Materials Management. Oversee schedules of assigned staff to ensure proper coverage of high profile facilities. Act a liaison for the monitor program to the Regional Materials Management Supervisor and the staff managers/engineers for monitored facilities.
2. Routinely conduct compliance inspections for assigned Solid Waste Management Facilities, including landfills, to ensure compliance with Part 360/363 regulations and the permit. Monitor and perform inspections of construction and operations at assigned facilities. Document such on-site monitoring through the completion of inspection reports.
3. Inspect municipal and industrial waste streams at the assigned facilities to verify that accepted wastes are approved for disposal. Inspect industrial waste hauler permits for compliance with the Part 364 regulations.
4. Meet with facility managers or engineering consultants to discuss findings of inspections. Discuss inspection findings including recommendations for any corrective measures with Region 8 Materials Management Supervisor and staff assigned to the facilities as appropriate.
5. Investigate complaints relative to the assigned facilities.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training.
Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
