Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have an associate degree OR 60 college credit hours AND two years of library technical services experience in which at least 50% of your job duties must have included one or more of the following:
1. Online catalog organization, input, and use;
2. Working on the OCLC System;
3. Technical processing of library materials; and/or
4. Processing library materials for preservation.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for a Library Technical Assistant position in the New York State Library. Under the supervision of the assigned Senior Librarian (Technical Processes), the Library Technical Assistant will provide direct customer service by performing a variety of technical tasks related to creating timely and accurate catalog records for all types of Library materials. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Search bibliographic and name authority metadata on OCLC, the local catalog, and other databases;
• Perform complex copy cataloging, including description, subject analysis and assignment of Dewey decimal or other classification;
• Perform bibliographic database maintenance on both OCLC and the State Library’s catalog;
• Prepare metadata records for other formats, such as maps, CD-ROMS, microforms, and electronic formats;
• Update serial holdings, resolve holdings problems, and prepare local holdings data records;
• Prepare new name authority records for the Sr. Librarian to be added to OCLC; and
• Review work of clerical staff.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent-permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree or credit hours will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. The work schedule for this position includes flexible hours from Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $59,757 based on annual performance advances.
