Bachelor’s degree in computer science, accounting, finance, business administration or a related field
One year of professional experience working in an office setting
Preferred Qualifications:
One-year practical experience performing account reconciliations, analysis, and operational/capital budget preparation and review
Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis
Advanced computer skills, including willingness and ability to learn new applications
Detail oriented, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to provide exceptional customer service
Experience with Office 365, Workday, PeopleSoft, ServiceNow, SharePoint, and Smartsheet
Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and develop moderately complex reports for forecasting and results analysis
Duties Description The Budget and Analytics department develops, facilitates, and delivers quality processes and information for budget development, budget control, and financial analysis to enhance organizational decision making. Budget and Analytics provides outstanding customer service and comprehensive and informed data to ensure fiscal integrity in support of NYSTRS’ mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives, while providing transparency to its members and Board of Trustees.
The primary responsibilities of the Budget Analyst include, but are not limited to, assisting in preparing and monitoring the System’s operating budget, analyzing and interpreting budgetary information to assist in decision making, and participating in other projects and studies:
Function as part of a team to coordinate and prepare the System’s annual operating budget, business initiatives and performance metrics plan
Gather information on prior year(s) spending, projected funding/resource needs (i.e., salaries/benefits; capital, operating and other expenses) and budget priorities
Work with departments to determine what resources are necessary for them to meet their service, business initiatives and operational needs
Prepare materials to include in budget presentations
Analyze Expense Fund expenditures and to help prepare financial projections and year-end analysis of actual expenditures
Analyze budgetary activity, monitor actual spending, and report on results against operating budget/plan
Develop models or projections by studying past results, relationships, and data to anticipate future trends and events
Assist departments with workforce planning by preparing position plans and organizational charts
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Review Administrative Fund contracts for budgetary compliance and impact.
Work collaboratively across the System, including with Finance, Human Resources, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Information Technology- Business Solutions on other projects, as needed.
