Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for the 2025 AG Fellowship Program, includes the following:
• Law students who are graduating from their JD program during the academic year 2024-25.
• Admission to the New York State Bar within the Fellow’s first year is a condition of continued employment. Therefore, Fellows must be registered to complete the following exams/courses:
o Take the Unified Bar Exam (UBE) offered in either February 2025 or July 2025.
o Take the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) offered in either March 2025 or August 2025.
o You must complete all segments of the New York Law Course (NYLC) at least 30 days before the date of the next New York Law Exam (NYLE) in order to register to take that NYLE.
o Take the NYLE at one of the times offered in 2024 or by April 2025 at the latest.
o See the NYS BOLE website for more information.
• Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State.
• The Public Officers Law requires OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States.

Duties Description Program Details
The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is recruiting applicants for the 2025 Attorney General Fellowship Program. The following are some program highlights:
• This is a two (2) year program for six (6) law school graduates.
• Placements begin in September 2025 and conclude in August 2027.
• Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in working as a public service attorney.
• Fellows work as junior attorneys and receive training and mentorship.
• Fellows work to protect the rights and interests of the state and people of New York.
• Fellows gain hands-on legal experience by working on investigations, affirmative and defensive litigation, and public education, and community outreach projects.

For 2025, we have placements available in the following locations:
• Albany, New York City, and Poughkeepsie
• The AG Fellowship Team makes placement assignments based on the needs of the OAG.
• Placement assignments take into the account the Fellows’ stated location preferences.
• We are seeking applicants who have a genuine interest in working for the OAG and wish to do important legal work that serves the people and State of New York. Therefore, we recommend applicants avoid requesting placement in specific bureaus in their application materials.

Fellows receive a salary and benefits.
• The annual salary is $81,159 plus location pay where applicable (NYC: $3,400, Poughkeepsie: $1,650)
