Salary RangeFrom $70000 to $90000 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a law degree from an accredited law school; be admitted to and in good standing with the NYS Bar; have at least two years of relevant experience and be able to demonstrate strong legal research and analysis.
Duties Description The Office of Counsel to the Majority acts as in-house counsel to the New York State Assembly majority conference. Under the direction of the Counsel to the Majority, the duties of the Associate Counsel may include but are not limited to the following:
Provide interpretation and analysis of statutory and constitutional provisions pertaining to the legislature; Monitor, perform research, drafting, and/or editing of legal briefs for litigation involving or pertaining to the legislature; Perform legal research and writing on various legal matters as may be necessary; Coordinate among other offices within the Assembly and Senate to effectuate the duties of the office.

Familiarity or experience with one or more of the following:
NYS Government, including: Legislative powers and duties, separation of powers/powers and duties of the branches of government; Litigation (state and federal court and administrative proceedings); Employment Law; Freedom of information Law (FOIL);Public Officers Law, including: Open Meetings Law, Ethics, Requirements of public officers generally & Election Law
