Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated. Preference may be given to individuals with chainsaw and heavy equipment operation experience.
Duties Description Duties may include, but not limited to; general sanitary cleaning of state facilities such as public campgrounds; assisting with the construction of picnic tables & outhouses; assisting with the removal of dangerous and hazardous trees; assisting with snow & ice removal. May be required to travel & assist other working circles with trail maintenance, campground operations, & storm damage response. The candidate may be required to operate a motor boat to access remote state facilities.
The candidate may assist with a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, roofing, masonry, and related work in maintaining, repairing, and constructing a wide variety of campground structures, and other public facilities under the direction of the Trades Generalist.
The candidate must have the ability to use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; ability to operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others.
The candidate will be required to operate self-propelled machinery such as cars, trucks, construction equipment and riding mowers; haul construction materials, and may operate non-self-propelled machines.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
