Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Chief Diversity Officer position will have a bachelor’s degree and at least six years of experience in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility leadership, with strong strategic planning, data analysis, and managerial skills. Experience in a government or public sector environment is preferred, along with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Duties Description The Chief Diversity Officer at the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM) is responsible for leading and directing the agency's diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives. Reporting to the Commissioner, the Chief Diversity Officer collaborates with the State’s Chief Diversity Officer and the Department of Civil Service to meet statewide diversity objectives. This position acts as AGM’s liaison with the New York State Olmstead Director, ensuring the seamless exchange of insights, recommendations, and feedback regarding the Olmstead Plan. The Chief Diversity Officer plays a critical role in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and ensuring that DEIA principles are integrated into the Department's policies, program development, employee lifecycle, and service delivery.

The position is located at the Department of Agriculture and Markets’ headquarters conveniently located near the Albany International Airport at 10B Airline Drive, Albany, NY 12235. We offer a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking. This is a management/confidential (MC) position that offers a competitive salary range of $111,925 - $141,439 per year with excellent benefits. Benefits include but are not limited to Health, Dental and Vision coverage, NYS Pension Plan membership, Life Insurance coverage, and Voluntary Defined Contribution Plan.

Additional Comments Appointment Process:
The Chief Diversity Officer is an Exempt Class position within the NYS Civil Service Merit System. Section 41(1) of the Civil Service Law provides that the Exempt Class shall include "all other offices or positions for which the Civil Service Commission has determined it is not practicable to fill by competitive or non-competitive examination." These positions are not tenure-bearing.

Approval for appointment to this position will go through the Budget Director Approval (BDA) process, including a fingerprint background check.
