Minimum Qualifications Reassignment or Transfer: Current New York State employee with permanent or contingent permanent, competitive status as an Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive, service in a title at or above Grade 4, and deemed eligible for transfer to Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent clerical, communication and organizational skills. Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint. Ability to process mail.

Duties Description The Office Assistant 1 (OA1) will report to a Health Program Administrator 1 in the Central NY Regional Office, Administration Unit. The OA1 will provide general office support such as preparing documents and correspondence, ensuring office printers and scanners are stocked and functioning and assisting staff with office equipment; assisting with the transition from paper to electronic records via scanning; maintain and access archived files; receive and sort daily mail, apply postage for external mail, and process packages to be sent via FedEx. This position will also assist with phone support and serve as a receptionist to all visitors/deliveries to the Regional Office as part of the office clerical pool.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time appointment. Transfer candidates may be asked for a social security number to verify transfer eligibility.

This title is normally filled in the competitive jurisdictional class via appointment from an eligible list resulting from an examination. However, this position may be filled in the non-competitive jurisdictional class under the NY HELPS program. At a future date, it is anticipated that employees hired under the NY HELPS program will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. You will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. Like competitive class employees, individuals serving on a permanent non-competitive basis in a NY HELPS title are eligible to participate in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
