Minimum Qualifications Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or ABD in History or closely related field. ABD candidates are expected to have Ph.D. in hand before August 2025.
Specialization or documented research interest in East Asian History or Culture.
Research competency in one or more East Asian languages as appropriate to field of study.
Teaching experience at the college level in the candidate's field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. or ABD in History.
Previous experience teaching first time to college, non-traditional, diverse student population.

Duties Description The Department of History and Philosophy at State University of New York at Old Westbury seeks to hire a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2025 to teach courses on East Asian History and Culture. ABD or Ph.D. in History or closely related field is required. The candidate will teach survey courses in Chinese History and culture as well as in other regional areas of expertise within East Asia. The ability to teach transregional courses as well as other History major courses such as Global History, Historiography and Senior Seminar among others is also strongly preferred.

Candidates for this position will be asked to teach 3 (4-credit) courses per semester, provide college and departmental service and a strong record of publication and other professional development activities.

The Department of History and Philosophy houses a B.A. in history, a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a B.A. in the combined areas of philosophy and religion. We also offer content courses in our School of Education's Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Adolescence Education Social Studies.
