Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in Counseling Psychology or a closely related field by August 2025. We will also consider those who are ABD and are on track to graduate by December 2025.
Experience teaching at the graduate level.
Licensed or licensure eligible in New York State as a Mental Health Counselor and/or Psychologist.
A commitment to social justice and teaching/mentoring diverse student populations at the graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching a culturally and economically diverse student population.
Duties Description The Graduate Mental Health Counseling Program at SUNY Old Westbury is seeking a NYS licensed/license eligible tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in the Fall 2025 Semester. This position will meet NYS requirements for postdoctoral hours toward licensure. Supervision will be provided. The Graduate Mental Health Counseling Program is a 60-credit professional training program. Graduates of this New York State Education Department Office of Professions (NYSEDOP) licensure qualifying program meet the educational requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
Our curriculum is grounded in social justice and committed to training culturally humble clinicians who can meet the growing needs of the diverse Long Island and NYC client population. In addition to these values being evident throughout all our courses, we require students to take two courses specific to the content: a) Psychosocial and Cultural Perspectives, b) Multicultural Counseling Lab. Our diverse student body is trained to understand and use their intersectional identities in clinically useful ways.
