55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. Candidates must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and ONE of the following minimum qualifications:

Either 1. a bachelors or higher level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science AND five years of experience in the following computer related areas, including two years of supervisory experience or one year of managerial experience in: computer programming; network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications, IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis, and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing;

Or 2. a bachelor’s or higher-level degree in any field AND six years of experience in computer related areas as described in #1 above, including two years of supervisory experience or one year of managerial experience;

Or 3. an associate degree* with 15 semester credit hours in a computer science field AND seven years of experience in computer related areas as described in #1 above, including two years of supervisory experience or one year of managerial experience;

Or 4. eight years of experience in computer related areas as described in #1 above, including two years of supervisory experience or one year of managerial experience.

Definition: Supervisory Experience is defined as the responsibility for assigning work and overseeing subordinate staff or project(s) in an Information Technology (IT) environment. Managerial Experience is defined as the responsibility for determining and prioritizing the workload of a project, program, or organization in an Information Technology (IT) environment, including supervision of subordinate staff, and ensuring compliance with related goals, budget, and laws in conjunction with other managers or executive level staff.

Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have one of the following minimum qualifications:

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Information Technology Services is seeking applicants for the position of Manager Information Technology Services 2. Under the directive of the Assistant Director of Information Technology Service for ITS Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing teams dedicated to Enterprise Desktop Support Services and Enterprise Customer Support Services. The incumbent will be responsible for the smooth operation of workplace technology and providing excellent support to end-users. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Lead, mentor, and manage teams responsible for Enterprise Desktop Support Services and Enterprise Customer Support Services;
• Oversee the planning, deployment, and maintenance of desktop infrastructure and software across the Department;
• Ensure that desktop systems are secure, up-to-date, and compliant with organizational standards and policies;
• Collaborate with other IT teams to implement standardized desktop configurations and ensure compatibility with other systems and applications;
• Develop strategies for desktop optimization, including hardware refresh cycles, software licensing, and system performance monitoring;
• Establish, maintain and enforce effective processes for providing timely and high-quality technical support to end-users;
• Provide overall supervision and coordination of service desk operations, including ticket triage, prioritization, and resolution, to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and customer satisfaction goals;
• Monitor support metrics and performance indicators to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance the user experience;
• Collaborate with other IT teams, such as Infrastructure, Security, and Applications, to ensure alignment and integration of workplace technology initiatives with broader IT strategies;
• Engage with business stakeholders to understand their technology needs and priorities, and proactively identify opportunities to enhance workplace technology services;
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices related to workplace technology, data security, and privacy;
• Provide overall supervision, coordination and oversight of the Enterprise Desktop Support Services and Enterprise Customer Support Services teams; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a permanent appointment or a temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Manager Information Technology Services 2 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
