Minimum Qualifications Five (5) years of experience as a land mobile specialist or related experience in the implementation and maintenance of communications equipment and systems,

OR

One (1) year of experience as a Communications Technician, SG-18.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to applicants having an Associate’s Degree or higher in a field of study related to technology or applied science.

Duties Description Directly supervise the technical staff assigned to the Radio Unit at Division Headquarters. Ensure that subordinates receive proper and necessary training to perform assigned tasks and that workload is distributed accordingly within the unit.

Assist in the design phase and actively participate in the implementation phase of radio/communications projects as required.

Maintain liaison with vendors and consultants and work closely with same to ensure the operational integrity and cost effectiveness of existing and proposed systems and equipment.

Review requests for quotations and invoices relating to technical projects and acknowledge or comment as required.

Review technical matters referred by the Director of Communications, State Police Radio Engineer, or other personnel and reply or comment as appropriate.

In response to requests or needs, in conjunction with the State Police Radio Engineer, propose new systems or modifications to existing communications systems.

Prepare plans and technical specifications for the purchase of communications equipment as required or directed.

Assist with the formulation of Requests for Proposals for release to prospective vendors.

Oversee the maintenance and update of all data base files associated with communications equipment and engineering functions.

Represent the Director of Communications and the Division of State Police as required in all matters pertinent to radio and other communications concerns.

Additional Comments This position reports directly to the State Police Radio Unit Supervisor and is responsible for the first line supervision of the Communications Radio Technicians and in conjunction with the State Police Radio Engineer, is involved in the design and implementation of radio/communications projects for the Division of State Police.

The successful candidate should exhibit expertise or knowledge in the following areas:

Technical expertise ranging from DC circuitry through land mobile systems applications and transmission networks.

Technical analytical skills.

Ability to develop technical specifications for communications equipment.

Technical writing skills.

Effective supervisory and communication skills.
