Duties Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected candidate will work on the Regional Road Crew under the direction of the Road Crew Maintenance Supervisor and the Regional Maintenance Supervisor. The primary work for this position will involve:
• Operating heavy equipment to perform road maintenance and driving large trucks.
• Operating garbage trucks and heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, skid steers, rollers, graders, etc. to perform maintenance tasks effectively.
• Operating a truck/trailer combination to transport heavy equipment to and from job sites.
• Applying working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with road maintenance to ensure proper operation and upkeep.
• Ensuring compliance with safety standards, procedures, and applicable codes and regulations related to road maintenance.
• Performing medium to heavy manual labor as part of daily tasks.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Work shift may vary to include weekends, weekdays, nights, and holidays as necessary, but will normally be 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. during the winter months, and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during summer months.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License* with air brake endorsement that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be capable of operating a truck/trailer combination.
• Must have the ability to understand and carry out instructions, including in writing.
*Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
