Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR two years of full-time , verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, maintenance operation, or assisting in a journey-level trade. Must be 18 years of age. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Duties Description This position will be helping to manage the recreation facilities, infrastructure, and daily operations. Employee will be assigned recreation facilities to help manage as hands on/working on-site supervisors.
During the winter, the candidate will be assigned to the Indian Lake Maintenance Center from about October through April, work schedule of 7:00am-3:30pm, with pass days of Saturday & Sunday.
Duties will include picnic table, out house, and fire pit construction, hazardous tree removal, campsite restorations, facility remodels & rehabilitations, and assisting the Operations Maintenance staff with various other projects such as, snow removal, road repair, and general building maintenance.
During the summer camping season, this position will report to the Indian Lake Maintenance Center and be assigned various seasonal Recreation Facilities located in Northern Hamilton County. From May through October, shifts and pass days may change during open camping season due to program needs (notice will be given).
Duties will include management of campground staff daily operations. To include daily/weekly booth transactions and reports, customer service & registration, daily cleaning and sanitizing of comfort stations & shower buildings, refuse pick up & removal, grounds keeping, mowing, fire pit cleaning, facility remodels & rehabilitations. Assist with various other related tasks as assigned. Candidate may be required to stay overnight at a campground when staffing conflicts arise.
The candidate may be required to operate a motorboat to access remote state facilities and will need to obtain certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercraft upon appointment.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
