Minimum Qualifications NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing), SG-20: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure, specialized professional administrative or professional clinical experience.
A bachelor’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master’s degree in nursing can substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
NY HELPS: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Permanent competitive service in this title or one year of permanent competitive or 55B/C service in a title SG-18 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law.
Duties Description The Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing) will be assigned to the agency’s Empire Unit and will manage special medical investigations and inmate mortality review caseloads. Such investigations will involve the inspection of state and local correctional facilities, interviewing correctional facility security and health care staff, reviewing medical and mental health records, and preparing comprehensive field investigation reports. In addition, this position will conduct inspections and evaluations of the health care plans, equipment, procedures, and operations of state and local correctional facilities, including the preparation of comprehensive medical and mental health services evaluation reports, and the design of minimum health services professional staffing plans. The incumbent will also manage a caseload of inmate health care and mental health care complaints and grievances.
Additional Comments Up to 40% travel may be required. Some positions may require travel to locations not serviced by public transportation.
This position is eligible for geographic nursing differential in the amount of $20,000.
