Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: Four years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber& Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumber training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) Trainee 1, equivalent to SG-9: Full-time permanent service in a position allocated at Grade 12 or below which is primarily engaged in the performance of unskilled and/or semiskilled labor and trades tasks; must be 18 years of age or older; possess a High School diploma or general equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Education Department; and be proficient in English and math.

Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) Trainee 2, equivalent to SG-11: Successful completion of a 52-week probationary period as a Trades Specialist (Plumber and Steamfitter) Trainee 1; OR completion of 45 hours of technical math coursework and 15 hours of blueprint reading/schematics coursework or passage of an equivalency exam or proof of successful completion of equivalent training, 144 hours of plumber and steamfitter trade-specific instruction, and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training. Trainees must maintain a “C” or better average in their coursework.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description Under the direction of Maintenance Supervisor 3, this Trades Specialist (Plumber& Steamfitter) at Saratoga State Park will be engaged in the construction, maintenance, and repair of one or more of the following systems:
• Potable water systems (from the point of supply to the point of use) within the region, both inside buildings/structures and underground facilities. This includes well systems (pumps, filtering, chlorination, piping, distribution, etc.) or municipal water services (metering, isolation, and distribution).
• Sewer and waste systems (from the point of use to the point of removal) within the region, both inside buildings/structures and underground facilities. This includes traditional septic systems (tank and leach field), sand filters and municipal sewer systems.
• Natural gas and propane systems (from the point of supply to the point of use) within the region, both inside buildings/structures and underground facilities. This includes gas services, propane tanks, distribution piping, and end-use appliances (e.g., Water heaters, stoves, and furnaces).
• Ventilation and air conditioning systems include building exhaust fans, HVAC units, heat pumps, central AC, and split units.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Working from verbal or written descriptions or drawings and sketches, following blueprints or specifications, and estimating labor and materials needed.
• Working with various types of pipes (copper, PVC, CPVC, cast, black iron, galvanized, HDPE, etc.)
• Visually inspect fixtures and equipment and use appropriate test equipment such as pressure and vacuum gauges to determine the cause and location of problems and make necessary repairs or adjustments as needed.
• Assembling materials, tools, and equipment required for projects.
• Will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of associated tools and equipment as assigned and will order supplies and equipment as needed.
• Work independently or as a team; communicate effectively with the Supervisor and Park Management.
• Identify and communicate potential issues, safety concerns, or routine maintenance needs with management and colleagues as necessary.
• Supervising and instructing others in constructing and repairing plumbing/HVAC systems and associated equipment.
• Must be able to lift, carry, and/or move equipment or materials of different weights and sizes, stand for prolonged hours, and work from scaffolding, ladders, and aerial lift devices.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be willing to travel during working hours to other facilities within the Saratoga/ Capital Region to carry out work duties in the park’s vehicle. The travel percentage will be explained in detail during the interview.
• Must be willing to keep up on all mandated safety training, including First Aid/CPR/AED, and follow safety standards.
• Ability to work from scaffolds and ladders.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, to climb, bend & do moderately heavy lifting.
