Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year of employment experience in construction or maintenance, with some previous masonry experience OR completion of an appropriate one-year technical/trades school course. Experience in the maintenance of a historic site or park is desirable.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Historic Site Manager and maintenance and restoration staff at Crown Point State Historic Site, the incumbent performs maintenance and masonry support functions at a NYS Historic Site with two sets of historic ruins with National Landmark Status, a visitor’s center and museum and a network of trails, shoreline, and grounds. As a Parks and Recreation Aide 5, job duties may include but are not limited to:
* Supporting the restoration masonry team by preparing areas for restoration and mixing batches of mortar.
* Assist in routine cleaning and maintenance of historic site facilities, including museum/visitors center, restrooms, and maintenance shop.
* Assist in winter site maintenance, including shoveling snow, applying ice melt to walkways and paths, and minor storm clean up, including collecting brush and branches by hand.
* Assist in spring cleanup including pruning low branches, cleaning drainage systems, blowing leaves, and a range of groundskeeping tasks.
* Assisting with minor mechanical repair and maintenance of equipment including tractors, lawn tractors, string trimmers, and utility task vehicles.
* May act independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
* May assist with historic site operations and traffic control, as needed.
* Communicating with other staff and park patrons in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
* Ability to work outdoors year-round.
* Ability to communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material.
* Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, to climb, bend and do moderately heavy lifting.
* Must attend and complete required trainings.
