Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Preferred Qualification:
One year of employment experience in general building construction or maintenance, 6 months of which in heavy equipment operation OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will primarily support the region’s Motor Equipment Service Mechanics by performing semi-skilled and un-skilled labor. Duties include but are not limited to:
* The candidate will primarily work on the repair and maintenance of self-propelled and non-self-propelled small engine equipment (cleaning parts, lubrication, changing filters, sharpening mower blades), as well as diagnostic and repair work under the supervision of skilled tradesmen.
* Assist in maintaining shop tools and equipment while keeping a clean and organized work area.
* The candidate may be assigned to work independently on a project or under other tradespersons, depending on the region's needs.
* Ability to follow instructions.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
* Must be willing to attend safety and technical training to further knowledge on a broad range of equipment.
* Ability to work outdoors year-round.
* Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and be capable of medium – heavy lifting.
* Must be able to effectively communicate with other staff and park patrons in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
