Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current New York State employee with permanent or contingent permanent, competitive status as an Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive, service in a title at or above Grade 4, and deemed eligible for transfer to Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

NY HELPS: There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing secretarial/administrative support in a professional office setting. Proficient with a variety of software packages, including MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint) in the preparation of documents, presentations, spreadsheets, etc. Familiarity with MS Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. Excellent data entry, verbal, and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail. Experience scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and travel arrangements.

Duties Description The Office Assistant I will provide secretarial/administrative support to the Bureau of Perinatal, Reproductive, and Sexual Health. Duties include but are not limited to: typing documents and correspondence; establishing and maintaining filing and tracking systems; answering telephones; copying; faxing, and scanning; scheduling meetings and maintaining schedules and calendars; making meeting, travel, conference and teleconference arrangements; processing mail; ordering supplies and office equipment; training subordinate clerical/secretarial staff and other related duties as assigned.

Additional Comments Full-time, permanent position. Transfer candidates may be asked for the last four digits of their social security number to verify eligibility.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
