Minimum Qualifications Six years of the experience* in equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, or human rights.
*Qualifying experience includes working with organizations concerned with equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs; or in recruiting, training, and upgrading the educational and job qualifications of protected class members.
Substitutions: An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor’s degree for four years; and J.D. or master’s degree for five years.
Duties Description Equal Opportunity Specialists work on various projects and initiatives, including:
• Researching and developing new opportunities to recruit, retain, and promote a diverse workforce.
• Developing networks, both internally and externally, to identify key talent and build ongoing pipelines for a diverse workforce.
• Promoting employment opportunities at job fairs and college visits, as well as engagement with non-traditional and diverse communities.
• Developing relevant programming and communications to enhance employees’ cultural awareness.
• Infusing diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity activities into core DHSES talent acquisition processes, evaluating the effectiveness of such processes and developing and institute corrective actions.
• Creating reports and analyzing data related to agency diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity programs.
• Communicating agency goals and objectives to agency executives and advise agency management on diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity matters.
Equal Opportunity Specialists must maintain a working knowledge of relevant aspects of Human Rights Law, NYS Civil Service Law, NYS Executive Orders, Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as the mission and activities of DHSES.
