Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Duties Description Assist with the operation and maintenance of DEC facilities, including buildings, wildlife management areas, fishing access sites, and state forests. Will be required to operate light and heavy equipment and power tools safely and efficiently. Required to operate highway vehicles including but not limited to medium and heavy duty dump trucks, Rollbacks, stake body truck. Candidate may be required to perform a variety of tasks of the buildings and grounds maintenance trades including; plumbing,electrical, carpentry, painting, sawyer, mowing, landscaping, equipment operation and snow removal. Will assist in the maintenance of various types of trails, parking access. areas for hunting, fishing and recreational activities, department assets and infrastructure. May be required to perform maintenance and repair work on diverse types of motor equipment. May be required to assist with office tasks such as work orders, vehicle reports, invoicing, processing and logging paperwork.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.
