Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

Preferred Qualification:
One year of employment experience in general building construction or maintenance, 6 months of which in heavy equipment operation OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, the selected candidate will be involved in every aspect of historic site maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform routine maintenance on various power-driven mechanical equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, and power saws.
• Perform building and ground maintenance:
o Performs light maintenance within the building, including cleaning restrooms, collecting trash, mopping, and vacuuming.
o During fall months, a focus on leaf removal and maintaining equipment for the next season.
o During winter months, the employee will assist in snow removal, shoveling snow, and operating vehicles to plow snow.
o Operate self-propelled equipment, such as power equipment such as a snow blower, weeder, and lawn mower.
o Load and unload cargo from vehicles and storage.
• Assist with traffic control and parking of vehicles.
• Making regular rounds of the historic site and buildings to ensure the safety of patrons, employees, and site assets.
• Assisting grounds and building supervisor with 2 person tasks.
• Drive a state vehicle off-site to other facilities for training or when scheduled special events.
• Occasionally serves as representative to the public during special events.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including medium-heavy lifting.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with other staff and park patrons in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
