Duties Description The Research Scientist 3 will be responsible for overseeing the evaluation of proficiency testing data for all methods and analytes utilized by laboratories regulated by New York State. This role involves interpreting and evaluating data, conducting research, making informed decisions, and solving problems to ensure accurate adjustments are implemented in laboratory accreditation as mandated. The individual will communicate effectively with regulated laboratories and external stakeholders. Additionally, this position will assist with updates and revisions to externally facing information, including regulatory content. Maintaining documentation and updating the database are also key responsibilities, along with any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and four years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; or a Master's degree and three years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate should have experience with federal and state laws and regulations related to laboratory testing. Proficient in the implementation of quality assurance and quality control measures. Knowledgeable in requirements for US EPA standards, TNI 2016 standards, the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, Subpart 55-2, the ELAP certification manual, and 40 CFR 136 and 141. Skilled in applying knowledge of regulatory enforcement and compliance activities for laboratory proficiency testing. Demonstrates the ability to work independently, identify and resolve problems, and recommend improvements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
