Duties Description The Office of Counseling and Psychological Wellness Services at SUNY Old Westbury is seeking an Assistant Director of Counseling. The Office of Counseling and Psychological Wellness Services is a multidisciplinary team, dedicated to the support and enhancement of the psychological health and wellbeing, personal growth and development of SUNY Old Westbury's students. The Assistant Director of Counseling is expected to have a demonstrated experience and skill in the treatment of clients of diverse backgrounds, as well as dedication and experience in the supervision and development of emerging professionals. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month position that requires an on-campus presence and is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule.

The Assistant Director of Counseling will:

Provide psychological services to students on both a regular and emergency basis, and when necessary, during non-traditional hours.
Services include, but are not limited to, individual treatment, couple treatment, group treatment, crisis-intervention, triage, clinical consultation, and case management.
Establish liaison with doctoral- and masters- level programs in the mental health professions.
Assist in management of counseling center's externship training program.
Provide individual and group supervision to trainees in the mental health professions.
Provide didactic seminars and other educational enrichment opportunities to the center's trainees.
Provide services, including consultation and collaboration, to other college personnel, including faculty, student affairs staff and student leaders.
Initiate and take part in outreach services to the campus community, including collaboration and liaison to other college stakeholders.
Support the students in their pursuit of academic excellence and persistence.
Serve as a member of the Counseling and Psychological Wellness Team and participate in its meetings.
Serve the Division of Student Affairs and SUNY Old Westbury by serving on committees and participating in division- and campus-wide activities.
Act on behalf of the department's director in their absence and assist the director in managing the center.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's degree in mental health counseling or social work, Master's degree in Family and Marriage Counseling, or any equivalent degree.
A professional license in New York State, or a license in another state and an eligibility for licensure in New York State within a year of commencing employment.
Three (3) years of experience in a clinical/counseling position to include a broad generalist experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide variety of disorders and life problems for students and/or individuals, inclusive of students and/or individuals in underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds.
Inclusive of the three (3) years of experience must include and be able to demonstrate experience and skill in the treatment of clients who identify as members from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+.
Experience with risk assessment and management for students and/or individuals in underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds.
Ability to manage a large caseload.
Knowledge and experience in the supervision of mental health trainees.
Knowledge of and adherence to legal and ethical rules and guidelines regarding the treatment of college students.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advance planning.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. or PsyD. in Clinical Psychology, preferably from an APA accredited program.
Experience working in college counseling.
Familiarity with psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Familiarity with at least one therapeutic orientation other than psychodynamic.
Familiarity with psychological testing and the diagnosis of learning disabilities.
Ability to supervise trainees and conduct psychological testing batteries.
