Duties Description Perform complex technical duties in support of the Photogrammetry Section in the Design Mapping and Automation Bureau (DMAB). These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• The use of digital photogrammetric workstations for the compilation of mapping projects, digital terrain, and orthoimagery following standard specifications and procedures. May also perform special tasks and assignments including aerotriangulation measurement, aerotriangulation adjustment, and special LiDAR mapping.
• The review and edit of digital photogrammetric mapping and digital terrain following standard specifications and procedures. May also perform special tasks and assignments including contract vendor mapping review or digital terrain accuracy analysis.
• The acquisition and evaluation of aerial photography, point cloud data (LiDAR), and stereocompilation services by private firms. Coordination with regional design staff to determine project requirements. Preparation of written correspondence and specifications. Development and monitoring of project schedules and technical requirements.
• The use of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) to acquire aerial imagery. The Creation of 3D models, orthoimagery, and point cloud data from the UAS imagery. Preparation of written correspondence and specifications regarding the Photogrammetry Section UAS program. Development and monitoring of project schedules and technical requirements for UAS projects.
Additional Duties: Perform additional duties in support of the Design Mapping and Automation Bureau (DMAB). These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Assist with IT Liaison/IT Requestor responsibilities
•Assist with management, procurement, and use of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) equipment
•Assist with the development and implementation of DMAB internship program
•Assist with DMAB recruiting efforts
•Assist with DMAB purchasing and the use of the Statewide Financial System (SFS)
•Assist with review of data from the New York State Orthoimagery Program (NYSDOP) or review of other external data (ex. Cyclomedia Mobile LiDAR, NYSDOP airborne LiDAR, or consultant mobile railroad LiDAR)
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position.
The qualifications are:
A bachelor's degree, including or supplemented by 21 semester credit hours in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, cartography, and/or photogrammetry; and nine additional semester credit hours in any combination of cartography, photogrammetry, GIS, computer science, remote sensing, photo interpretation, statistics, and/or surveying.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer Qualifications:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55bc service as a Mapping Technologist 1.
Additional Comments * This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
